When people say converse they are usually referring to Chuck Taylors or chucks which are most likely the most popular style of converse shoes. And yes my dad likes to tell those fascinating stories of how he wore them when he played basketball in highschool, often he uses visual aids(his highschool basketball team picture where everyone on the team is wearing said shoe) to illustrate this point. Yes, very cool dad. Then he regales us with stories of how he had a pair in every off the wall color and they were only ten bucks @ Yellowfront (some ancient sporting goods store). All very fascinating. Nowadays these glorious shoes are being worn by all types of people, but I wont even try to name all the "categories" of people that wear them because that's lame. Classification sucks major ass. Anyway, don't give a shit what anyone says about you wearing the damn shoes. If you like something wear it. That should be the only reason to do anything at all anyway. So whether someone says your cool for wearing them or they tell you that you have no right to do so, just tell them to FUCK OFF! because you couldn't care less what they think! Or you could just ignore them and walk away which is often to better effect. Urban Dictionary

OMG THEY USED TO BE KOOL BUT NOW THEY'RE LYKE SOOO TRENDY!!!!!1!!111!11 BUT U SEE IM BEING TRENDY BY CALLING THEM TRENDY!!1111!!1 LOLZ KTHXBYE Shut the fuck up. Converse are amazing, always have been and always will be, no matter who wears them. If you pricks actually stop wearing a brand of shoes because "preps" have started wearing them, you're a pathetic piece of shit and should be shot immediately. Converse are canvas shoes that were popular in the 1980's. In the past few years they have become more popular again. You can buy them in low or high top, and in any color or design. You can personalize them by putting in your own shoelaces and writing on them in permanent marker. Urban Dictionary

Some really sweet kicks. Your dad probably owned some when he was on the school basketball team, and probably talks about how he was real hip because he owned a red pair. Unfortunatly they now cost around 50 bucks a pop as compared to when they started they were around $10. Just about everyone owns atleast one pair of converse, originally worn by basketball players they soon became popular on the punk rock scene being worn by bands such as the ramones. Theese are shoes that get better with age, because they still look cool worn out. People like to say that only "emos" or "punks" can wear them, this is not true. Anyone who wants to wear them can because they are totally boss. Your not cool if you wear them and your not uncool if you dont. You wear them cause you like them. ultimately they're just a pair or really sweet shoes that look cool. Urban Dictionary

The best shoes ever created. They can be worn by anyone, but are becoming more and more popular because Nike STOLE-err....bought Converse. If you are wearing them because you like them, you're doing the right thing. If you are wearing them because EVERYONE at your school has a pair and you want to be just like them, you are a materialistic jerk. FUCK YOU!!! Urban Dictionary

Is a word that is supposed to be a verb deriving from a mutation of "converse" and "conversation. It is in the dictionary as "non-standard except in some dialects". Some may believe this entry in the dictionary gives the word validity. It doesn't. Any slang or bastardized word embraced by popular culture could end up in the dictionary with this definition. That in no way means that it is a legitimate word. From the same school as "irregardless" or "ain't". An example was given above to attempt to legitimize this word by quoting rap songs. Ridiculous. Is "Sizzurp" a real English word too? Urban Dictionary

The brand of hipsters and free thinkers for years hit financial problems in the 90's and was bought out by Nike. Production was moved overseas and the price jumped from $20 to $35 a pair. Urban Dictionary
