A highly maneuverable escort warship; smaller than a destroyer noun

A flush-decked warship of the 17th-18th centuries having a single tier of guns; it ranked next below a frigate; – called in the United States navy a sloop of war.

In a modern navy, a lightly armed and armoured blue water warship, smaller than a frigate, capable of transoceanic duty.

Noun. 1. A fast warship that is usually smaller than a frigate but larger than patrol craft. These ships are generally well-armed and in use mostly by smaller navies that do not need or cannot afford larger warships. Corvettes generally carry enough firepower to sink ships many times its size, and can thus provide navies with a symetrical response to a threat for asymetrical cost. They do not have the endurance of larger ships and are therefore not suited for long-term operations (with the possible exception of Israeli corvettes, which, due to their prohibition from the Suez Canal, must travel all the way around Africa to reach their operating areas in the Red Sea). NATO standard designations are: FS (corvette), and FSG (guided misslie corvette). Urban Dictionary

A car that is fast but the owners always drive slow as fock in them and hold traffic up because they're retired and they can go on a gay little sunday cruise and go 5mph under the limit in a car that can go nearly 200mph, when other mofos gotta get their own ass to work. god damn i fucking tail them in my 50hp diesel vw. Urban Dictionary

A car General Motors quit making in 1967. The current overly plastic turd marketed by GM as a Z06 Corvette can go over 190 mph. This is the main argument when owners and prospective owners bash other all other cars. Never mind the US speed limit is 70mph and these losers would crap on themselves at over 120. Their cars are driven no faster than a POS Chevy Malibu. The best thing about not owning a Corvette is that they are a bigger cop magnet than an INDY car. Reason being they are not likely to pull over a Porsche 911 or Ferrari cause they don't know what the hell it is, although some cops mistake Ferrari for corvette cause it has round tail lights and must be a Curvette, Duh! So basically you have a car that a Jealous, idiot cop knows and can brag to his buddies, "I wrote a black covette for 59 in a 45. Really he was on doing 35." This is the main reason Corvettes and Vipers are seen in parade mode, 15 mph under the speed limit. Urban Dictionary

Best car ever made, no imports stand a chance against them and if you think you can take on a corvette with your rice burner than you have no idea what you are getting your self into. Urban Dictionary

The best american race car for fifty two years in a row. Urban Dictionary

It is the real mans sports car, where you can feel the acceleration unlike any honda i've ever been in with that Vtec bulshit rev it up too 10 grand to get the horsepower, and help to support the japanese market succed is not on on my list. plus who said you could supe up a corvette, just like linginfelter, with a 7.0 liter twin turbo 0-60mph in 1.9sec. lets see the hondas do that! Urban Dictionary

Too much car for any import to hadle. Urban Dictionary

A classic American sports car made since 1953 by the Chevrolet division of GM. Always two doors, always two seats, always popular and cool. Small block V8s since 55, IRS since 63, 4-wheel disc brakes since 65, fuel injection since 57 (and again in 82), and high performance since day one. Okay, so maybe the original I6 auto model wasn't too fast, but hey, what the hell. Anyway, the Corvette (or 'Vette') is currently in its 6th generation bodystyle, and features a 6.0l (366ci) OHV V8 constructed from aluminum and featuring EFI, a large dual exhaust system, among other things. The suspension is fully independent and has thick sway bars at both ends. For brakes, big vented discs clamped by multi-piston calipers, along with standard 4-channel ABS. Transmission choices include the standard 6-speed manual (which gets the T-top 28mpg) or (new for 06) and 6-speed automatic. Performance is just great, with 60mph coming the under 4.5 seconds, and capable of reaching 186mph. .95g is normal for a C6, and the brakes can stop this car from near freeway speeds in 120ft. or less. All of this for a lil over $40k. Almost half the price of a new 911. And less than half the price of the poorly-performing Acura NSX (290hp for $90k, Jesus Christ!) Urban Dictionary

Best car america has ever made, to bad thats not saying much. I don't understand why idiots on here are comparing an $85,000 race car to $2000 honda civic , thats like comparing the Z06 to a top fuel dragster in the 1/4th. I bet 90% of the people who are saying its the best car in the world are wannabe vette owners that will have to settle for a V6 camaro. The truth is most vette owners won't ever go over the speed limit because they are always 65+. It cracks me up when people say its the best bang for the buck when it runs low 12s stock. For $30,000 you can just buy a STi that runs high 12s stock and put $5000 into it and you could easily reach the 11's, also on the track the STi would give the Z06 a good run for its money do to AWD. All in all I have to admit its a nice car, just not the best car ever made. A true car enthusiast would chose a ferrari or any other european super car over a vette any day. Urban Dictionary

A tuner's dream, can handle supercharger turbo body kits aftermarket exhaust etc. But still comes out of the box with more horsepower than any rice burner and actually doesn't fuking break after second turn over. Hands down the fastest pussy wagons ever. Urban Dictionary
