Delco is the nickname for Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Delco isn't just a place to live; it's a way of life. And, Delco is not something you can obtain with a short visit or while you are only passing through. If you never been or don't actually live here, you just won't understand. Delco is a blue collar kind of town. We're the ones who built the houses MontCo and Chester County. We're white collar wannabe's and don't really care how we do on our annual reviews. It's not a bad thing, it's just who we are. Delco is something you can spot from across the bar while out of town. Speaking of bars, there's a 42:1 ratio when it comes to Bars to Library's. It's the way you walk, the way you look and the way you talk. The residences of Delco aren’t cocky, we're confident....confident because we know. When describing someone else from Delco, you say their name, state that you know them, say they're a good guy/girl, and then say their high school or the parish they're from. That's it. No need to disclose any additional information because that's all you need to know. Again, if you don't live here, you won't understand. (Not being cocky here either..) When telling other people that you're from Delco, they'll look you up and down and snarl and stare. But hey, we're used to it by now. There's no bigger bar tour the Saturday before St. Patty's Day. Philly's bar tour is 2nd best. If you're going to do it, you might as well do it right. Bands have written songs about Delco. Band's that you might not know, but we do. They'll pack any bar, any night of the week. Think we're not smart? Delco's got a few colleges and universities sprawled out across out great land. We should have our own flag. It would be a map of Delco on a Green and White flag. And it would say DELCO real big through the center. Nothing fancy because that's not who we are and once you see it you'll know the meaning behind it. Delco can be your friend if you would like it to be, but that's up to you. You can find Delco and a whole lot of it down the shore on the weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Delco packs 20 people into a 3 bedroom house each weekend during these months. Delco, also known by it's full name "Delaware County", is a middle class county located in Pennsylvania. The inhabitants of Delco are dominantly Caucasian, but are of the "wigger" category. A delco tuxedo is a system of dress popularized in Delaware county, particularly those communities east of Springfield and south of Drexel Hill (although the tuxedo is not as common in communities north of Drexel Hill, it has been seen in certain sections of Havertown, hardmore, and Drexel Hill itself). The tuxedo varies by season, and is characterized as best: Spring/Summer Delco tuxedo featuring Notre Dame Fighting Irishman (on right calf), jean shorts or Jordan Brand basketball shorts, Timberland Boots or Jordan Brand sliders (typically Carolina blue), beater or baggy white t-shirt or Catholic grade school t-shirt (with sleeves cut off; e.g. a St. Eugene alumnus). A delco minute is the term used for the period of time from January 10th-February 1st every calendar year in Delaware County. In contrast to the popular term new york minute, a delco minute lasts much longer than a minute; for some, it seems to last a lifetime. The delco minute is the time period each winter when 8th graders throughout Delaware County are faced with the difficult choice of deciding which high school in the county to attend. For some, family finances dictate a need for public school. But for many other young people throughout the county, they must decide before the end of a delco minute whether or not to disgrace themselves by enrolling at an inter-ac school the next fall, or going the pure route of a Catholic Education. The delco minute ends when parents submit a deposit to a local private school, or fill out the paper work for public school. the months leading up to a delco minute can be very stressful for some; St. Joseph's Prep has become increasingly selective in recent years, and now rejects most applicants. This means that some kids are forced after January 10th to consider enrolling at inferior schools, such as Malvern Prep or Monsignor Bonner. A phenomenon that occurs in southeastern Pennsylvania, more specifically in Delaware County (a.k.a. Delco) where a group of cars line up “parade-style” behind each other, because one driver decides to do 25 mph in a 45 mph zone. The trend is extremely common, in fact, that it would be near impossible to go one day of driving through Delco without experiencing said parade. Usually cars pile up in the range of 5 to 15 cars backed up on side streets, high usage roadways, and even on major interstates such as I-95. The trend gradually increases when approaching Southeastern PA, when traveling from other states, such as NJ or even Delaware where they already drive slow enough. Upon traveling the other way (away from Delco), drivers will notice a lighter hearted sense of well being as they drift further from this point of agitation in everyone’s lives. Even heading to NY, where traffic can be a bitch does one still feel a weight lifted off their shoulders. Likewise, a clear correlation between distance from Delco and level of agitation has been proven through multiple studies on the subject matter. Additional studies on the exact cause or root of said phenomenon have been slightly conclusive, leaving multiple, possible root problems contributing to the disaster on PA roadways. For example, it has been observed that a lower level of intelligence exists in Delaware County. Many of the folks living in the area are white trash, or act white trash, many of whom comprise the lowest common denominator when it comes to education. In addition to a lack of intelligence/common sense/hick mentality, architecture has also contributed to the problem. Delaware County (Delco) houses a number of elderly residents in trailer parks. In fact Delco BOASTS that it has such affordable living. It is no secret that many of the elderly drive much slower than other much younger (and in my case more attractive & more intelligent) people. This root cause can be easily determined through observing the TYPE of vehicle said driver is driving. For example, if said driver is driving a boxy 1980’s era vehicle like a Dodge Aries, it can be easily determined that trailer parks are contributing to the root problem. On the other hand, someone driving a “penis substitute” American made oversized gas guzzling truck, it’s probably safe to assume a lack of intelligence is involved. Combating the problem – Though the problem does infect most of Delaware County, studies have shown that avoiding roadways leading to Walmart, Target or the Dollar Tree can greatly reduce one’s commute time. Also, be wary of roads that don’t really go anywhere in particular, because many times people in Delco really don’t have a destination in mind and can be seen from time to time driving slowly to nowhere. To COMPLETELY avoid Delco Parades, it is urged that you completely bypass southeastern PA in its entirety. Trust me.
