It is not easy to determine the precise link between the "holy kiss" and the liturgical "kiss of peace", known in Greek from an early date as eirene (i.e. pax, or peace). ❋ 1840-1916 (1913)

Whether (with Origen) we connect eudokias with eirene, -- or (with the moderns) we propose to understand "men of good pleasure," -- the result is still the same. ❋ 1813-1888 (1871)
