What do we mean by faery?

The realm of faerie; enchantment, illusion.

A mythical being with magical powers, known in many sizes and descriptions, although often depicted in modern illustrations only as a small sprite with gauze-like wings, and revered in some modern forms of paganism.

An enchantress, or creature of overpowering charm.

A male homosexual, especially one who is effeminate.

A member of two species of hummingbird in the genus Heliothryx.

1. Faery Faeryland, or Elfland. The place where faeries live. 2. faery (fairy, fey, sidhe, seelie) A faery is an etheric being and a nature spirit. Victorian faeries were flighty and kind, beautiful winged ladies who were kind to children and were slightly preachy. This idea is incorrect. Faeries come in all shapes and sizes, and can be beautiful and good (though still do harm) as well as malign, though are more often unusual (whether ugly or beautiful, not in a normal way) and unpredictable. Mortals must always be wary of the Good Neighbors (as they are called, for it is bad luck to use the name 'faery', which offends them). To be able to see them is called the "Sight", and it is rare; however, all cats have it. It is said one can gain the sight by bathing one's eyes in a marigold ointment, while holding a four-leaf clover, or while looking through a stone with a natural hole in it. Their magic is called "glamour", and it is something like the power of illusion for it enchants the mind, sometimes confuses it (such as causing one to lose one's way), and can make a thing look differently than it does. Glamour is often employed to make a faery look normal when it is among humans; however, they usually retain some odd characteristic, like a hollow back or goat's hooves, or something more subtle, like oddly coloured eyes. Faeries sometimes steal human babies and leave behind wood glamoured to resemble them, or on rare occasions, a glamoured faery. These faeries are called changelings. Sometimes the Changeling pretends to grow ill and die, and returns to its faery family, or as it grows older it becomes mischeivous and plays pranks. They all eventually leave their human families to return home. There are two kinds of faeries; solitary fey and the Gentry, or court fey. Of the latter there are two courts, Seelie and Unseelie (which simply mean 'blessed' and 'damned'). The former is the benign court (though it too can cause harm, for faeries can't be trusted), while the latter is, of course, purely malicious and should be avoided at all costs. These courts have been used in modern fantasy writing, most notably in Holly Black's "Tithe"; however, that book can be misleading for the Unseelie Court is portrayed inaccurately; it is far more deadly than the book made it appear. Urban Dictionary

A small, mythological creature, most often depicted as a tiny female human with insect wings. These creatures are said to frolick and live in forests, helping plant life grow and playing pranks on unsuspecting humans. There are many types of faeries with different functions. To name a few: pixies, sprites, sylphs, nymphs, gnomes. Urban Dictionary

Faeries are earth spirits. They live among each element completely hidden. They have cousins called Pixies. Pixies however, are very mischevious. They enjoy tormenting other creatures for fun. Little pranksters.. I hope you never meet one. Pixies have a bad reputation for finding a creature and clinging to them until death. Faeries can be somewhat close to a Pixie, but mostly they are loving, playful, and carry with them a child-like enthusiasm for life. Hide among the pedals of a Daisy, you are a Faerie. The proper spelling of fairy. Everyone has their own faerie and daemon. Especially useful in magick if you're a Witch or Wiccan. Urban Dictionary

1. An alternative spelling of the word "fairy." A magic creature from the mythology of Arcadia, legedary for their mischief and prank-making. Most are fond of sweets, music, and play. Various common types of fae-folk include (but are not limited to) the sprite, the pixie, the dryad, the nymph, the satyr, the sylph, and the leprechaun. 2. A derogatory term used to insult a homosexual or to challenge a man's masculinity. Urban Dictionary

A beautiful name for a beautiful person. Has a sparkling personality, but tends to hide a lot. They have a ton of talents, and are very "magical"", kind of like a fairy. Faerie enjoys going to parties that only include 8 people or less. Sometimes, they can be clumsy in the worst situations, but they always find a way to fix whatever damage they've done, everyone not being able to not forgive them. Almost everyone wants to be best friends with Faerie. People celebrate when they are in the same class as Faerie, but in reality, Faerie would rather just have 2 or 3 close friends. Faerie will always back up her close friends, she acts like a clumsy angel 24/7, but she will beat you up. Urban Dictionary

The most beautiful girl in the world. There is only one. Urban Dictionary
