I don't currently have an autolocking belay device, and I was considering getting a grigri or a cinch.

He used them to slide the rope through, as you might a grigri.

My first lower was someone 50lbs lighter than me and the speed of the rope through the grigri spooked me.

So - if you use le grigri - be careful with this rope.

If short fixing is possible with the Cinch, does it need modifications like the grigri?

Basically, if I were just to use it for sport climbing, I'd get a Cinch ... but if it isn't as versatile I'd rather just get a grigri.
