A genre of music that had began in the late 80s/early 90s. Originally combining elements of metal and hardcore, it has now evolved into a dime-a-dozen plethora of bands that sound exactly the same. New school metalcore bands borrow heavily from melodic European death metal combined with stolen Slayer riffs and vocals ranging from annoying screams to cupped-mike growls. Band names are usually longer than the songtitles (i.e. Between The Buried And Me, Every Time I Die, etc). Mostly caters to mallrat teens who are glued to Facebook, shop at Hot Topic, wear skinny jeans, skateboard, and play Call Of Duty all day long. Urban Dictionary

Metalcore is a mix of heavy metal and hardcore music. It originated in the 1980's with bands like Integrity. Metalcore used to be refered to as Cross-Over Thrash, as stated by bands such as Dirty Rotten Imbecilesand Nuclear Assault. Today, Metalcore and Cross-Over Thrash are considered two completely different genres of music. Nuclear Assault was among the first bands to call themselves Heavy Metal/Hardcore Punk band. Breakdown was arguably one of the earliest to fuse heavy metal-influenced riffing with a more traditional hardcore sound without being a thrash metal band. Breakdowns are essential part of metalcore. Typically, the guitars play a set of rhythmically oriented riffs, usually on open strings so as to achieve the lowest sound the guitars are tuned for. These riffs are often accented by the drummer with double kick bass drums. Urban Dictionary

The latest trend in metal music... if you want to call it that. Metalcore is a genre crossbreed of heavy metal and hardcore that claims to be better than its nu-metal predecessors, which in some ways is true. However, metalcore is bad in it's own right. For example, every metalcore band sounds exactly the same, and god forbid the lead singers actually try to "sing" for once instead of the usual incoherent bad screaming. Metalcore is also unappealing and unlistenable to all but a small audience of devoted fans, as the songs lack any real hooks which keeps it from getting too mainstream, a double-edged sword. Metalcore has its ups, however; most metalcore bands are at least twice as talented as their nu-metal counterparts (instrumentally) and lacks the annoying rap aspect of said music. Heavy Metal fans should own at least one decent metalcore CD from bands like "Down the Sun" or "Sinai Beach", if only for the sake of being obnoxious and blasting it in your car with the windows down. Urban Dictionary

Lame form of music preferred by young kids who have no clue about real pain but think that dad not buying them an XBOX Elite is the worst thing that ever happened to them. Fans always wear white socks (well, metal borrowed leather from gay culture so I guess white socks are fair game as well!), poxy caps with straight, up-turned peaks, big holes in their ears, pierced eyebrows and lips, black dyed hair, the same ugly print hooded jackets, shorts, and have lots of coloured tattoos like sXe idiots. They never know anything about the history of the genres that they claim their music comes from (i.e., metal and punk/hardcore). Next year they will love the next lame trend. Most of them were wiggers a few years ago. Vocalist of band always has the same pose, mic grip, and stupid look on his face as the vocalist of any other metalcore band. Always cup the mike for growly bits. Urban Dictionary

A watered-down form of melodic death metal, due to it's lack of keyboard, less brutal vocals, and overall shorter songs. Listened to by scenester kids, along with deathcore, who are ignorant to it's superior predecessor which originated in Sweden. Urban Dictionary

A Song where u hear at the beginning of the song is 'chug-a-chug-a-chug' of the double bass drums and then alotta screamin and stuff and then some guitarist and/or drummer decides he's gonna sing the chorus Urban Dictionary

The term used to label two musical genres. 1) The fusion of hardcore punk and thrash metal sounding exactly like the sound of it - Integrity or Converge are good examples 2) Extreme metal, usually simplified, with emo clean singing, screamo harsh vocals and an excess of breakdowns which sound nothing like hardcore punk. A fabricated genre aimed at making money and being popular. Why is this called "metalcore" is beyond me. Urban Dictionary

Wannabe death metal. Urban Dictionary

A term that is used by some bands to gain more fans. Also used by some people who dont know music for shit and label bands the wrong way. For more information see gay Urban Dictionary

A non exastant form of music. there is no such thing as "metalcore" however, there is such a thing as punk faggots trying to play metal while not admitting to liking metal and using the terms "hardcore" and "metalcore". people who subscribe to this stupid fucking term are morons who need to be killed. also see, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GODDAMN "BREAKDOWN", only such things as, untalented solo riffs...... minus the solo Urban Dictionary
