June 23 (PRNewswire-USNewswire) -- The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, successfully completed its most significant early mission milestone Tuesday with a lunar swingby and calibration of its science instruments.

The swingby will start near the lunar south pole and continue north along the far side of the moon, NASA says.
